The look of luxe: Glamorous and gorgeously soft, velvet is 2018’s hottest trend

It’s the time of year when designers, industry experts, Pinterest and other style sites make their predictions about which interiors trends are set to take off in 2018 – and there’s a definite consensus about the fabric that we’ll be seeing more of. Yes, whether crushed, brushed or plain, velvet is back in a big way, in traditional jewel-like hues of ruby, amethyst and emerald as well as bold, fashion-forward shades like turquoise, mustard and Millennial pink.

At Hyder Living we’re thrilled to see velvet back in vogue. This luxe-look material, with its delicate lustre and gorgeously soft texture, has to be one of our all-time favourite fabrics for injecting instant glamour into a room – which is precisely why we chose it for the upholstery for our stunning Victoria Sleigh bed. A classic Chesterfield design, the Victoria is our most seductive statement piece, and features a 150cm tall scrollback headboard and footboard crafted from sparkling silver crushed velvet and decorated with individually placed studs. But it’s not just a pretty surface; underneath there’s a sturdy wooden frame and a sprung slat base, making this a bed built to last and a great investment for any home.

We think the Victoria would be a fantastic addition if you’re after a chic boutique-hotel look in your bedroom, but with its opulent looks it will amp up the luxe factor in almost any modern or vintage scheme. That’s another thing we love about velvet: its versatility. Set it against one of this season’s over-scaled floral wallpapers, co-ordinate it with metallic accessories or juxtapose it with industrial materials or distressed wood… You really can’t go wrong.
